Rules and Background of Teen Patti

Teen Patti is a popular card game with a standard deck of 52 cards, with rules similar to other card games such as Three Card Brag and Poker. If you already know how to play either game, you will be able to pick up this game easily. In Teen Patti, you are dealt a hand of three cards. The aim of the game is to have the best hand and win the contents of the pot, which is made up of the sum of the bets made by all players.

To determine the winner, players, compare the value of the cards in their hands. This value is determined by the combination of cards the highest ranking combination being a “trail” (three of a kind), followed by “a pure sequence” (three consecutive cards of the same suit), “sequence” (three consecutive cards, but does not need to follow suit), “colour” (three cards that share the same suit), “pair” (two cards of the same rank) and finally high card (highest ranking single card).

Players are given a number of options when playing this game. Not only can they play bets, but they can also raise the bet or choose to fold if they believe that the cards in their hand are not strong enough to win the round. The winner of the round is determined by the player with the best hand. Now that you have a better idea of what Teen Patti is, it’s time to learn how to play it!

How to Play Teen Patti - Hand Combinations

This game doesn’t only require luck, but also skill in convincing other players that your hand may be better or worse than they believe. Having the highest ranking hand may guarantee you to win the contents of the pot, but at the same time, you also need to convince the other players to raise the ante in order to get the most out of your hand. At the same time, if you have a suboptimal hand, you may be able to bluff your way into convincing other players to fold, and therefore the contents of the pot would be yours! Just remember that there is more than one round and that other players may pick up on your habits and change strategies accordingly.

The ranking of cards in this game follows traditional poker hand rankings. For those unfamiliar, here is the order from highest to lowest, along with the amount of combinations.

Trail, also known as three of a kind, is the highest ranking hand one can draw in a deck of 52, with only 52 combinations.

A pure sequence is when there are three consecutive cards from the same suit. In this game, there are 44 possibilities.

A sequence is where there are three consecutive cards, but not of the same suit. The chances of this are far more common, with 416 different combinations.

If you draw three cards of the same suit, this is known as “colour”. This combination is far more common, with over 1100 sequences.

Having two cards of the same rank means that you have a pair. The chances of a pair occurring are relatively common with close to 100,000 different combinations.

In the event that players do not have any of these combinations above, the winner is determined by having the highest card. This game only has around 18,000 possible, high-card hands.
